The Devastation is Unthinkable

You’ve seen the videos and photographs. Whole communities have been burned to the ground. Many lives have been lost, and others have been completely disrupted. It will be a long time before many of the wildfire victims will feel that their lives are normal again. You can help the people and animals who have been affected by donating funds for their rescue and recovery. Here at the Healthier, Greener, Kinder Foundation, we’ve decided to encourage your donations by offering to match your donated money, dollar for dollar, up to $2,000, between now and the end of January. We’ve picked three different rescue organizations who are providing on-the-ground assistance to fire victims — including people, pets, and horses. When you click the Donate button below, you will be able to choose one of them or ask us to split your donation among all three.

Here are the three organizations:

Assisting People:  California Community Foundation (CCF) has activated a fund to complement immediate relief, addressing the long-term recovery needs of neighborhoods long after media attention has shifted away. Thousands of generous individuals, foundations, and corporations have already answered the call and provided critical contributions. CCF’s disaster and recovery efforts support an array of critical recovery services, including housing, case management, mental health, and medical care for displaced residents. CCF also aids in rebuilding essential infrastructure like emergency communication systems and offers financial disaster assistance, labor law education, and immigration services to low-wage workers and immigrant families.

Assisting Pets: The emergency response team from Best Friends Animal Society is on the ground in Los Angeles, offering help and support to other local animal welfare organizations while also working to ensure the safety of their own pets and staff in their Los Angeles Pet Adoption Center. Within the first 48 hours, Best Friends transported 116 animals from L.A.-area shelters to the Best Friends sanctuary in Utah, thus freeing up space for animals displaced by the wildfires. Best Friends continues to work around the clock to respond to pleas for help from shelters in the affected areas. Plans for the coming days include taking more animals from shelters who might be in harm’s way and being ready to move animals to shelters outside of Los Angeles. Best Friends has also opened two pet pantries with everyday pet supplies (food, litter, collars, leashes, etc.) in Los Angeles.

Assisting Horses: Greater Good Charities is working to help the horses who have been displaced or injured and are in need of food, shelter, and medical care. Greater Good Charities is on the ground at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, working to provide the necessary care to these animals.

As with all of our grantees, we have checked the records of these nonprofits to ensure that they will handle our funds appropriately. They are all highly rated on Guidestar.

Between now and January 31, we will match any donations that you make to this fundraiser, up to a total of $2,000. Please click the Donate button below and be sure to tell us where to direct your donation.
