Grant Application Info & Frequently Asked Questions

The Healthier, Greener, Kinder Foundation is interested in awarding small grants (less than $5,000) to nonprofit organizations of small to medium size. Most of the grants awarded will be less than the maximum amount.

In our first three years of operation, we have awarded about $94,000 in grants and donations.

In 2021, we awarded grants totaling about $30,000. The projects that we funded included a wide variety of worthwhile efforts, including: purchase of furniture for an Afghan refugee family; parrot nest box monitoring in Nicaragua; outdoor recreation for disadvantaged children; purchase of winter clothing for a “Cops and Coats” program; and much more. In 2022, we awarded nearly $40,000 in grants and donations. The diverse projects that we funded included: bat monitoring in northern Virginia; publication of a children’s book about dealing with worries; installation of a Piedmont Prairie Garden at a city park; provision of fresh produce to a disadvantaged family; rescue of chained dogs; and much more. In 2023, we awarded grants and donations totaling about $24,000.

The types of projects that we fund include animal shelter grants, environmental sustainability grants, healthy eating and active living grants, grants for humanitarian projects, and more. The total number of grants that are awarded each year is not predetermined and depends on a variety of factors, including the amount of donations that the Foundation has received. We want to hear about your great ideas!

Visit the contact us page if you have questions about our grant application process.

We do not currently know when the next round of grants will be initiated. When we are ready to initiate the next grant cycle, we will announce the opening and closing dates via our e-newsletter and social media. Then, when the grant application period opens, we will activate a grant application form on this page. Applicants will need to fill in that form, including any necessary attachments, and submit it before the application period closes. Please note that if you are a foreign organization wanting to apply for a grant, you must have a fiscal agent in the United States.

We do support some worthwhile projects in foreign countries. In those cases, the recipients have a fiscal agent in the United States. Please note that if you are a foreign organization wanting to apply for a grant, you must have a U.S.-based fiscal agent.
